Promotions¶
Catalogue > Promotions is where you set up discounts and free delivery that apply to a shopper's basket. It is open to Merchandisers, Admins and Super admins. The same promotions are applied wherever the shop prices a basket, so a promotion you save here takes effect on the next price calculation. There is no publishing step.
The list¶
A table on desktop and cards on a phone.
- Filters. Active, Scheduled, Expired and Disabled show promotions by where they stand today. Automatic and Code show them by how a shopper gets them. Choosing none shows everything.
- Search finds part of a name, description or code.
- Sort by priority (the default, highest first), name, newest start or soonest to end.
- Each row shows the name, whether it is automatic or needs a code, the offer ("10% off the order", "£5.00 off the order", "Free delivery"), when it applies ("Spend £50.00 or more", "Items from Shoes", "Every basket"), its dates, priority and status.
- Enable or Disable on a row switches a promotion off or back on without leaving the list, and keeps your search and filter. Edit opens it. Deleting is on the edit page.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Switched on and inside its dates |
| Scheduled | Switched on, starts in the future |
| Expired | Switched on, but its last day has passed |
| Disabled | Switched off. This wins over the dates |
Creating and editing¶
New promotion opens a page of cards. Editing shows the same cards, the promotion's status beside its name, and a save bar when you change something. Leaving with unsaved changes warns you. ... at the top holds Delete promotion, which asks for confirmation. Orders that already carry the discount keep it.
Details. A name (shown on the basket and the order next to the discount) and an optional description. Choose Automatic (applies to every qualifying basket) or Needs a code. Every promotion has a code, because the pricing engine finds a promotion again by it when a basket is repriced. For an automatic promotion it is an internal reference, and if you leave it blank one is made from the name. Codes are letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, stored in capitals, and unique within the shop.
Offer. One of:
- a percentage off the order, from 1 to 100;
- an amount off the order, in the shop's currency;
- free delivery, which takes the whole delivery charge off.
A discount is spread across the items in the basket. There is no "buy one get one", per-product discount or bundle price; see the limits below.
When it applies. Leave everything blank and the promotion applies to every basket. Otherwise set any of:
- a minimum spend, counted on the basket total before any discount;
- collections, by their URL names, separated by commas, with "any one of them" or "every one of them". Only items directly in a collection count, not items in its sub-collections. Names are checked against the shop's collections;
- products by SKU, one per line, with
x 3to need three of one. With several lines, one SKU reaching its quantity is enough.
When more than one condition is set, choose whether every condition must be met or any one is enough.
Schedule. A first and last day, both included, in the shop's time zone. Blank first day means start straight away; blank last day means run until you switch it off. The pricing engine works to the hour, so a promotion can begin up to an hour after its start.
Switch and order. The Switched on switch. Priority: when several promotions apply to a basket, higher numbers are applied first. Every promotion that qualifies still applies; there is no "best offer wins" rule.
Promotions the page can't fully edit¶
Promotions created by an import, the MCP tools or the API can hold rules this page can't show without losing detail (several actions, two minimum-spend conditions, a custom action). Those open with the offer and conditions as read-only text. You can still change their name, code, dates, priority and switch.
What isn't there yet¶
These are limits of the platform, not of this page.
- Shoppers can't enter a code. Nothing at checkout or on the basket accepts one, so a promotion that needs a code doesn't apply today. The page lets you set them up and warns you. Use an automatic promotion for now.
- No usage counts or limits. The list can't show how often a promotion was used, and there is no cap on uses or per-customer limit.
- Two actions only. Order discount (percentage or amount) and free delivery. Nothing targets specific products, and no multi-buy or bundle prices.
- Stacking is by priority only. There are no exclusive groups.
Badger Pricing is a separate, enterprise-level service that covers these and more, but it owns all pricing for a shop, not just promotions, and is not connected to the shop today.
