Pages, blogs, media and content blocks¶
The Content area of the admin is where you build the pages shoppers read. This page explains the pieces and where to find them.
Access needs the CONTENT_EDITOR, ADMIN or SUPERADMIN role. Stereotypes need ADMIN or SUPERADMIN.
Pages¶
Content > Pages (/admin/site/pages) lists your pages with search, an Enabled/Disabled filter and sort. Each row shows the page name, the page it sits inside, its type (stereotype), status and when it was last changed.
A page is edited in three tabs:
| Tab | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Details | Name, URL slug, description, the page it sits inside, hide, keep out of the sitemap or site search, and the search engine listing (title, description, keywords) |
| Layout | The page layout (one column, with a right sidebar, with a left sidebar, empty), the centred container switch, the page type (stereotype) and the canonical path under Advanced |
| Content blocks | The blocks that make up the page, grouped by the area of the page they appear in |
Changes are saved with the bar that appears at the bottom, or with Ctrl/Cmd+S. Delete is in the "..." menu in the page header and asks you to type delete to confirm.
System pages¶
Content > System pages (/admin/site/globalPages) lists the built-in pages every shop has, such as the basket, checkout and customer account. They are shared by all shops. Press Customise on one to make your own copy for your shop; the shared page is left as it was. A page you have customised is marked Customised and has Edit your copy.
Content blocks¶
A content block is one piece of a page: a block of text, a banner, a list of products, an FAQ, a menu. (In code and in the API these are called extensions.) Each block sits in an area of the page:
| Area | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| Banner | Full width, directly under the navigation |
| Above the content | Between the navigation and the main content |
| Main content | The body of the page |
| Right column, Left column, Left sidebar | Side columns, when the layout has them |
| Below the content | After the main content, above the footer |
| Product grid | On collection pages, where the products are listed |
| Page head | Meta tags and favicons added to the page <head> |
| Navigation menu, Search bar, Footer | Site-wide parts of every page |
| Tracking scripts | Analytics scripts added at the end of the page |
Which areas a page offers depends on its layout. Press + beside an area to add a block, choose it from the picker (search by name or description), then fill in its settings and press Save content block. Remove content block asks for confirmation. Settings that rarely need changing sit under Advanced options.
Stereotypes¶
Content > Stereotypes (/admin/site/stereotypes). A stereotype is a template: pages, products or collections that use it inherit its content blocks. Add a delivery banner to a stereotype once and every item that uses it shows the banner. An item can add its own blocks, or replace an inherited block in the same area.
Items pick their stereotype by name, so renaming a stereotype detaches the items using the old name. Deleting one does not delete those items; they simply stop inheriting its blocks.
Blogs¶
Content > Blogs (/admin/blog/list) lists your blogs with the number of posts in each. Each blog is its own page; its posts are listed newest first, with a Draft or Published status. A post is a draft while Draft is on.
Media¶
Media (/admin/media) is a grid of your uploaded images.
- Search looks at the title, alt text, description and tags.
- Needs alt text and No tags find images that need attention. Images with no alt text carry a No alt text badge.
- Tags across the top filter to one tag, with counts.
- Tick images (the box appears on hover on a desktop) to delete several at once.
- Each tile has Copy image URL and Edit.
Upload images takes up to 10 JPG, PNG or ICO files at a time. After they upload, add a title, alt text and tags to each and press Save images. If AI image tagging is enabled for the site, suggestions are filled in for you. An image's edit page also has the image URL with a copy button; delete is in its "..." menu.
