Connecting Claude to your shop

The Badger Commerce connector lets Claude work on your shop: add and change products, build collections and pages, check orders and stock, issue refunds, run email campaigns and review how the shop is doing. You ask in plain English, and Claude uses the same tools and permissions as your admin account.

It works in Claude on the web, the desktop app and the mobile apps, and in Claude Code.

Before you start

You need:

  • a Claude plan that can use connectors;
  • a Badger Commerce account with AI tools (MCP) access on the shop. A shop administrator gives it on the person's page under Customers (role AI tool access (Model Context Protocol)). Without it the sign-in screen has no shop to offer.

Connect

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, find Badger Commerce in the directory and choose Connect. If you're adding it by hand instead, choose Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.bdgr.co.uk/mcp.
  2. Sign in to Badger Commerce in the window that opens.
  3. On the consent screen:
    • Shop: choose the shop this connection works on. It starts on the one you chose last time.
    • Permissions: tick what Claude may do. Read lets it look at everything; Write lets it create, change and delete; Admin adds pipelines and site settings. Claude never gets more than your own account allows on that shop.
    • Stay connected for: 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 3 months or 6 months. After that, Claude asks you to sign in again.
  4. Choose Allow. Back in Claude, the connector shows as connected.

Ask Claude "which shop are you connected to?" to check before you make changes.

Changing shop

Each connection works on one shop. To work on another, disconnect and connect again, choosing the other shop on the consent screen. There is no "switch shop" command, so a change asked for in one chat can never land on a different shop from another chat.

To work on two shops at once, add a second custom connector using that shop's own address, https://<your shop's domain>/mcp.

Things to ask

Each tool tells Claude whether it only reads or makes changes, so Claude can ask for your approval before anything that changes the shop. Sending an email campaign also needs the audience confirmed.

  • "Add a product called Linen Apron at £24, in the Kitchen collection, with three colour variants, and write it a short description."
  • "What sold best last week, and which of those are running low on stock?"
  • "Refund the delivery charge on order 1042 and resend the customer their order email."
  • "Build a Summer Sale page with a hero banner and a grid of everything in the Sale collection."
  • "Why doesn't searching for hoodie find our sweatshirts? Fix it."
  • "Draft an email campaign announcing the new range to everyone on the newsletter list. Don't send it."
  • "Which orders are waiting to be dispatched from the Bristol store?"

What Claude can and can't do

Claude can do most things the admin can: products, variants, stock, collections, category pages, pages and blog posts, menus, media, promotions, gift cards, orders (dispatch, refunds, cancellations and returns), customers, email campaigns, search tuning, bookings and site settings.

It can't take payments, see card details, change your Stripe account, give people admin access or delete the shop.

Disconnecting

  • In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Badger Commerce → Disconnect.
  • Removing someone's AI tools (MCP) access in the admin ends their connections within the hour (when Claude next renews its access), whatever they chose for Stay connected for.

Your data

The connector sends Claude only what a tool returns for the request it was asked to make: for example, the products it listed or the order it looked up. Badger Commerce keeps the sign-in tokens for the connection, not your conversations. Anthropic handles your chats under its own terms. See the Badger Commerce privacy policy.
